Ananda is a boutique of scent-led rituals and essential oil blends, designed as a living archive of modern calm. Rooted in ancient formulas but shaped by modern rhythms, Ananda invites curious minds into a world of tactile design, eccentric serenity, and symbolic storytelling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Developed as a conceptual passion project, Ananda merges brand thinking, narrative systems, packaging design, and editorial craft — from strategy to shelf to scent.
It began with a question: What if essential oils felt less like wellness clichés… and more like collectible artifacts?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The Ritual Archive emerged—a living collection of aromatic rituals built on paradoxes: ancient yet offbeat, structured yet strange, calming yet a little chaotic.
Concept & Foundation
[01]
Audience: Design-conscious, spiritually curious, slightly ironic seekers
Metaphor: The Ritual Archive — a scent-led archive of modern rituals
Mission: To make inner exploration less serious, and more sensory
Values: Symbolism, Eccentric Calm, Modern Heritage, Craft with Wit
Tone of Voice: Clever, warm, and slightly theatrical — part mystic, part art historian, part friend who smells like palo santo
Strategy & Positioning
Visual identity
Logomark: Inspired by 17th-century type design, mimicking hand-pressed printed books—rooted, tactile, slightly offbeat.
Typography: Modernist type introduced to create contrast between system and ritual, emotion and logic.
Grid & Rhythm: Golden ratio-based grid and diagonal rhythm system to evoke hidden logic beneath calm surfaces.
The concept moved from strategy into tangible form through an editorially driven packaging system.
Six oil blends, each with its own color-coded label, custom name, and tagline, were paired with tactile proportions and archival type. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Bottles were housed in manually printed and assembled boxes, and each scent was accompanied by a tarot-style card—explaining the ritual, mood arc, use moment, and scent direction. These cards are designed to be collected, forming an integral part of The Ritual Archive experience.
Design Decisions
[02]
Color & Material
Archive Red—assertive, archival, and unexpected.
Amber glass bottles with label-specific color codes reflecting each blend’s emotional arc.
Soft Paper Grey to support the archival metaphor while remaining minimal and fresh.
Beyond the objects themselves, posters and editorial compositions extended the brand language, using an inverted grid logic where content areas are derived from outer edges.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Final objects were photographed on film in Paris, allowing the brand’s sensual, imperfect qualities to show through.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The result is a holistic scent brand: mysticism, humor, and structure blended into a cohesive visual world. Bottles, boxes, cards, and posters exist as artifacts—fully realized and documented.
